–
Ambling round the house,
in an untucked cosy shirt,
he shuffles to a vagabond hymn
inspired by symphonies unheard.

He seeks reflection from the lower cast,
like a cat with nothing else to do.
Hard to deny him due affection.
He purrs with intellect and caste.

I have long been a fan of the “In Character” section of Vanity Fair. It dawned on me the other day that it might be a good exercise to combine my writing and photographic skills.

What’s a Gelosi?

The name "Gelosi" derives from the name of an acting troupe that performed commedia dell'arte from 1569 to 1604. Roughly translated from Italian, it means "the zealous" or "those jealous of pleasing." Their motto was Virtu, fama ed honor ne fer gelosi, meaning "We are jealous of attaining virtue, fame, and honor". I studied the troupe in college and used the name as the banner for all my creative work. It has stuck until the present day.
